- Main Entrance/Registration Desk
The main entrance of the hospital is designed to improve patient flow. Upon entering, visitors will immediately notice the abundance of natural light as well as a large Navigator Center, where our concierge staff is waiting to provide assistance. Our Concierge Services, which include bellhop services, valet parking, and other family-focused amenities, help to create an environment that is welcoming and comfortable.
- Cancer Center Main Entrance
The Cancer Center features a CT simulator, clinical space, and a separate and dedicated outside patient elevator.
- Chemotherapy Treatment Room
Most chemotherapy perfusion rooms feature windows that allow natural lighting for a more pleasant environment. There are separate waiting areas for cancer patients, as well as a comprehensive cancer resource library.
- Emergency Department Waiting Room
The Emergency Department (ED), features a “Fast Track” area to provide ease of access and discharge for patients requiring minor treatment. ED patients also have their own separate pedestrian entrance.
- Austin’s Playroom
Children visiting UPMC Passavant have access to Austin’s Playroom, complete with fish tank and an interactive computer system developed by Carnegie Mellon University specifically for the hospital. Donated by the Mario Lemieux Foundation, Austin’s Playroom even has windows at “kid height,” so that children can look outdoors.
- Observation Room, Emergency Department
An eight-bed observation area features large glass-enclosed rooms in an open floor plan with a central nursing station designed to promote interaction with visitors and clinical staff. Located in the observation area, the Chest Pain Center allows Emergency Medicine physicians to observe and evaluate chest pain patients to determine whether or not they are having a heart attack and to facilitate appropriate testing so that an accurate diagnosis can be made quickly.
- Hybrid Angio Operating Suite
The hybrid angio suite enables surgeons to do an angiogram and an operation in the same setting. This capability to combine procedures can decrease patients’ risks by avoiding having to undergo multiple procedures at different times. The hybrid suite increases the hospital’s patient capacity, which means a shorter wait time for those patients scheduling surgery.
- Cardiovascular ICU Patient Room
A 16-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) brings the total number of ICU beds at the hospital to 47. A full-time, board-certified intensivist is available on-site 24 hours a day. Windows in the new, larger rooms maximize natural lighting.
- CVICU Hallway
A nurses’ desk is located outside every two ICU rooms so that patients can feel comfortable knowing that their nurses are readily accessible. Wireless GE cardiac monitoring equipment is installed throughout the hospital, so that patients can walk the halls and still be monitored.
- Nurse Station
The Patient Pavilion features an open floor plan - nursing stations designed with low counters, welcoming tables, and comfortable seating - to promote interaction with visitors and clinical staff. The attractive café-style lighting and warm colors foster an environment of consultation rather than instruction.
- Family Waiting Room
Families can take advantage of a waiting room, as well as a respite room where they can go to spend some time alone. The respite room features ambient lighting, soft music, recliners, a TV, and a computer, so that they can relax or contact friends or family. There also is a family convenience room which features a shower and private bathroom.
- Patient Room
The pavilion features 72 nicely appointed patient rooms, each with three zones that have been built to accommodate the individual needs of the clinician, patient, and family. Each private room is identical in design for efficiency and safety in care delivery. The number of sinks was increased to provide numerous places where staff could wash their hands as a way to reduce the spread of infection. Each room contains floor-to-ceiling windows, sleeper sofas, and spacious bathrooms.
- Emergency Department Fast Track Area
Our "Fast Track" area provides triage, quick assessments, and discharges for patients needing minor treatment, such as stitches or an ankle wrap.
