17 | UPMC Center for Nursing Excellence Legacy of Nursing Nora Evans, MSN, RN, CMSRN, unit director, 3 Mansfield/4 Shaw, UPMC McKeesport, was presented with the Legacy of Nursing Award. Nora was recognized for advancing the profession of nursing through practice, research, education, writing, leadership, and clinical practice over many years. Her nominator said this about Nora: “She teaches. She encourages continuing education. She leads with authority and compassion. Nora is a legacy in nursing, and she is a legacy at this hospital.” Spirit of Inclusion Kimberly Cogley, MSN, MBA, RN, coordinator, Colorectal Center, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Pediatric Surgery, was presented with the Spirit of Inclusion Award. Kim was recognized for living the spirit of inclusion in her day-to-day interactions with patients, families, and associates. Her nominator called Kim “an exemplary role model of dignity and respect, who provides culturally appropriate care clinically and through teaching.” Outstanding Preceptor Alexandra Gross, BSN, RN, CMSRN, clinical resource specialist, UPMC Presbyterian, was presented with the Outstanding Preceptor Award for demonstrating excellence in precepting new staff and students. Her nominator stated, “Alex taught me that being a nurse means so much more than passing medications and charting assessments. Being a nurse means meeting the patient where they are and providing the care that they need.” Outstanding Clinical Faculty Kathleen Godfrey, DNP, NNP-BC, CPNP-PC, neonatal nurse practitioner II, assistant professor, lead nurse practitioner, University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing, was presented with the Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award for demonstrating excellence in clinical teaching and serves as a role model to nursing students. A student of Kathy’s noted, “Kathy is not only an amazing clinical instructor, she is an incredible mentor.” Nurse Advocacy Champion Award Margaret A. Hayden, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, administrative director, Nursing Education, Practice and Research, UPMC Passavant, was presented with the Advocacy Champion Award. Peggy was recognized for demonstrating passion, implementing strategies, and being leadership focused as an advocate for nursing practice.
